The Somatique Method certification is designed to be completed in 12 to 18 months. The program comprises 450+ hours of instruction across 12 modules, combining in-person training in New York City with guided home study and practice teaching. Most students complete it within one to two years while continuing to work.

Most certifications teach Pilates in isolation. Somatique Atelier integrates four disciplines into a single coherent method: classical Pilates, fascia science, osteopathic principles, and somatic awareness. Cohorts are kept small by design. This is not a large lecture-format program. Small cohort sizes allow for direct feedback on your teaching practice, hands-on corrections, and individualized attention from Lauren and the teaching team. Exact cohort size varies by intake, but the program is intentionally limited to preserve teaching quality.

Students have access to Lauren and the teaching team during in-person modules and via designated office hours during self-study periods. The program includes practice teaching with peer feedback, and there are structured observation requirements. You'll never be working through the curriculum in isolation.

Yes. This program is built for movement professionals, not complete beginners. We expect applicants to have a personal Pilates practice or equivalent movement background (yoga teaching, dance, physical therapy, fitness training). If you're unsure whether your background qualifies, reach out before applying.

Yes. The program is designed for working professionals. In-person intensives are scheduled in periodic modules, and the home-study components are self-paced. Most students continue their current jobs throughout the program. The main constraint is time for practice teaching and self-practice, which requires realistic scheduling.

Our home base is Midtown East, New York City, where in-person training intensives are held. For students outside the NYC area, we offer a hybrid format combining in-person sessions with guided remote components. Not all modules are available remotely, so out-of-area applicants should review the program schedule before applying.

Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds and interpenetrates every muscle, nerve, and organ. Unlike traditional Pilates, which works primarily with muscles, fascia-informed Pilates addresses the whole fascial web, releasing restrictions that muscles alone can't reach. Somatique Atelier incorporates fascia science throughout all 12 modules, helping you work more effectively with clients who have chronic tension, scar tissue, or postural patterns.

Somatic awareness is the capacity to sense and consciously influence your own internal physical experience. In Pilates, it means teaching clients to move from within rather than forcing movement from the outside. Osteopathic principles emphasize the interrelationship between structure and function, the body's self-healing capacity, and the importance of addressing the whole person rather than isolated symptoms. For Pilates teachers, this means understanding how the pelvis, spine, ribcage, and extremities function as an integrated kinetic chain. Somatique Atelier weaves these principles throughout the curriculum, giving you a clinical-level understanding of movement mechanics.

Mat certification covers exercises performed on the floor using body weight and small props. Reformer certification adds spring-resistance equipment, dramatically expanding the range of exercises and training load options. Many entry-level certifications are mat-only. Somatique Atelier is a comprehensive certification covering both mat and reformer work, plus specialty props, within a single program.

The 12 modules progress from foundational theory through advanced application. Modules cover anatomy and biomechanics, the four discipline integrations, cueing and touch methodology, program design, and business fundamentals for teaching.
